Guido Pachetti - Family

The painting can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the depiction of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones. Artist Guido Pachetti's work focused precisely on genre scenes. His subjects are inspired by a delicate lyricism of everyday life, depicting intimate family scenes or themes of farm work.

Guido Pachetti's genre scenes are always interpreted with a delightful, didactic realism. The composition is highly detailed and rich in details, serving to pique the viewer's curiosity. The painter's style is almost an illustration, in which the composition is carefully crafted to enhance the narrative development and, formally, the entire structure rests on the drawing. In this way, Pachetti, through the essentiality of his representations, manages to highlight the lyricism of simple lives, imbued with the primary values of family or rural life. However, the painterly quality is not lacking, which Pachetti expresses with rapid application of color, lending greater immediacy and freshness to the representation.

Guido Pachetti is a painter from Livorno. He is close to the Livorno School in his choice of humble subjects and his spirit of extolling a poetics of everyday life. He differs, however, in his simpler and more direct language, grounded in a realism with a highly narrative tone.
