Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the heart of artistic exploration. Since classical antiquity, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been one of the primary goals of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the nude is the ultimate expression of this aspiration, transcending all eras and stylistic movements. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations characteristic of the Renaissance and various forms of classicism, which aim for a faithful and detailed representation of the human body, the nude has also played a leading role in the new aesthetic conceptions introduced by the historical avant-garde movements, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism.
Franco Murer’s style is often evident throughout his work: his compositions are always based on a fluid rhythm that infuses the surface of the painting with swirling movement. This rhythm is initiated by the color, which flows freely across the canvas, determining the curvilinear movements that characterize the pictorial space while simultaneously building forms that follow the same linear flow. In this way, objects are synthesized into a kind of color-based expressionism. In addition to the fluidity of form, in this study of the human body, Franco Murer also strongly develops the plasticity of the figures, using a bold black outline. The volumes thus defined are arranged in a complex space, following that same fluidity of color which determines the overall structure of the composition.
Franco Murer was born in Falcade in 1952, where he still lives and works. He is a painter, sculptor, and the son of Augusto Murer, from whom he learned artistic techniques. In 1974, he graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice, where he attended courses taught by Alberto Viani. That same year, he was awarded a prize for young artists in Europe in Turin, while in 1975 he participated in the Quadriennale di Roma. He has participated in numerous exhibitions both in Italy and abroad.
