Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always played a leading role in artistic research, both as a setting and a backdrop, but also as a subject in its own right. The naturalistic description of landscape has been one of the greatest aspirations for artists of every era. Each historical period has given its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its description: first with a research into space, through Brunelleschian perspective in the early Renaissance; then on the rendering of atmosphere in the sixteenth century; up to the representation of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Lithography is a perfect example of the highly refined technique of the painter Franco Azzinari, who often depicts the vegetation of his Calabria moved by the wind. In this way, he has the pretext to show off his high pictorial and graphic quality, which unfolds in a complex, almost divisionist application, that seeks out the single blade of grass, the single leaf, or the single petal, each with its own luminous vibration. His compositions are often organized in horizontal bands of color, with a great sense of balance and harmony.
Franco Azzinari was born in San Demetrio Corone in 1949, lives and works in Altomare, always in the province of Cosenza. His trip to Paris will be fundamental for his pictorial training, during which he will be fascinated by the painting of the Impressionists. Later he opens a studio in Lerici and begins to depict Ligurian landscapes. In 1974 there is the first solo exhibition and the opening of the studio in Milan. From 1977 he travels to the East, the United States, Brazil, and the Seychelles, and to Cuba where he makes the portrait of Fidel Castro.
