In this Sicilian-inspired landscape, the artist interprets and depicts his homeland in a dreamlike manner, incorporating the spiral element. This is a pattern the artist often uses in his work due to its fascinating structure, present in nature and the cosmos, and possessing great harmony and aesthetic beauty. In nature, the spiral manifests itself in countless forms, from galaxies like our own two-armed Milky Way, to vortices and hurricanes, and can be found again in the delicate intertwining of flower petals and many other forms. Furthermore, the painting contains hidden anthropomorphic profiles; in the tree trunk on the left and in the glimpse of the night sky in the upper right, the whole evokes a surreal, fantasy-like atmosphere.
