The painting is highly indicative of Ernesto Treccani's pictorial research, in the sense of a progressive elimination of form, until a point of total symbiosis between subject and space. What remains, from this process of emptying, is the informal consistency of the subject's face: a few brushstrokes that almost blend and disappear into the background, yet with a decisive line, still determined in their expressiveness, giving character to this face, to its deep-set eyes. The same is true for the drawing, a few traces that have a casual quality, yet effectively indicate a physiognomy.
