Description of the work
Description of the work
Enrico Colombotto Rosso (Turin, 1925–2013) was a leading figure in the Italian painting scene of the latter half of the twentieth century. Active from the early 1950s, he exhibited at prestigious international venues such as the Galerie de l'Odéon in Paris, the Museum of Art in Providence, the Rome Quadriennale, and Palazzo Strozzi in Florence. His painting is characterized by a strong visionary sense, manifested in the depiction of sumptuous, highly dramatic female figures. The artist drew from an unsettling and surreal imagination, often inspired by the hidden reality of his home city of Turin, and in particular by the atmosphere of pain and segregation at the Turin Cottolengo. Alongside his painting, Colombotto Rosso also worked in the field of theatrical set design, collaborating with the Teatro Stabile di Torino on productions such as Strindberg's "A Dance of Death" and Wilde's "Salomé". His artistic output, strongly influenced by Decadentism and visionary Expressionism, stands out for its ability to translate the anguish of contemporary man into powerful and evocative images.
