Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always played a leading role in artistic research, both as a setting and a backdrop, but also as a subject in its own right. The naturalistic description of landscape has been one of the greatest aspirations for artists of every era. Each historical period has given its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its description: first with a research into space, through Brunelleschian perspective in the early Renaissance; then on the rendering of atmosphere in the sixteenth century; up to the representation of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
For the artist Egidio Duina, representing landscape means achieving, through the pictorial medium, a delicate fusion between naturalistic rendering and poetry. Indeed, his views, in which he uses a starkly synthetic language, transfigure reality into a lyrical interpretation of its own that almost transfers it into a dreamlike dimension. All this is translated, from a formal point of view, into a very delicate pictorial approach, where the representation of reality occurs in a rarefied way. This means that the recording of realistic details and particulars is lost in favor of a language that is tendentially more expressionistic and symbolic. Complicit in this path is Egidio Duina's refined pictorial touch, which synthesizes objects with great delicacy. And so too the color range stands out for a very delicate unnaturalistic tendency, for which the immersion in white and the exaltation of violets translate precisely the artist's poetic sensitivity and his almost dreamlike interpretation of landscape.
Egidio Duina was a painter from Brescia, born in 1940 and passed away in 2021. Even as a child he showed his skills as a draftsman and, at fifteen, went to work in the workshop of a master glassmaker, later dedicating himself to restoration, gilding, sculpture, and other techniques, interests that confirm his versatility. He attended the Art School of the Association of Brescian Artists for five years. He has exhibited his works, both figurative and abstract, since 1966 in the context of solo and group exhibitions, receiving wide acclaim from critics and the public. The last exhibition he took part in is the online review Greetings from Brescia, a tribute to his hometown with no fewer than five works.
