Description of the work
Description of the work
Since the 19th century, when painting began to explore various aspects of bourgeois life, the circus world has been a theme explored by various artists. During the 1970s and 1980s, it became a true genre, practiced by many painters, who focused their attention primarily on the figure of the clown.
The painter Edoardo Bertolini's style is highly classical. He uses an eloquent figurative language to create genre scenes with a realist feel. The entire composition is constructed through a solid drawing structure. This enhances the subject's plasticity and creates its own space within the work. The light appears strikingly from our right, casting the harlequin's shadow on the wall. Formally, despite the solidity of the figure, Bertolini employs a very lively pictorial style to lend greater immediacy to the painting.
Edoardo Bertolini is an artist gifted with an excellent painting technique, which he uses to create his classical and naturalistic works. His academically trained pictorial language allows him to create excellent paintings with a realist flavour.
