Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consists of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art the "Still Life" also becomes a way of interpreting reality, as it did for the Cubists or Giorgio Morandi.
Even in his still lifes, artist Edmondo Giuliani confirms his penchant for quick and immediate representations, yet always charged with elegance and expressiveness. Here too, the means of expression are the black graphic line that delineates the forms, in an almost geometric and rational manner, seeking a purity of representation. This purity is accompanied by the application of watercolor paint, applied in very light and transparent glazes, which also capture the reflections of light on the fruit.
Edmondo Giuliani was a painter originally from Jesi, where he was born in 1915 and passed away in 2007. Essentially self-taught and a street painter, as he liked to call himself. A very popular figure in his hometown (of which he received honorary citizenship in 2000), he nevertheless exhibited his work in various shows in Italy and abroad. Only late in life did he attend painting courses at the Academy of Fine Arts in Macerata.
