Duroux - Autumn

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

In Duroux's pictorial style, color dominates the representation. Indeed, in a substantially two-dimensional space, the paint is applied in broad chromatic zones that, by being arranged on different planes, also acquire a textural value. The representation is thus extremely synthetic and expressive. The brushstrokes are dense with color, almost material, their greenish and brown tones laden with the moisture of autumn.

Duroux, the artist behind this painting, is an artist deeply influenced by post-Impressionist painting. His style is extremely concise and grounded in the expressive power of color.
