Three women and a man look directly at the viewer. Domenico Purificato (Fondi 1915 – 1984) was an Italian painter associated with the Roman School and Roman Neorealism. Known for his social commitment, he sensitively portrayed scenes of everyday life and figures from the working class. In addition to painting, he worked in cinema and set design, collaborating with Neorealist directors and participating in important exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadriennale. In 1972, he was the director of the Brera Academy in Milan, where he influenced numerous generations of artists.
