Dolores Puthod - Interior

Interior views are quite common among the subjects of artworks. Consider, for example, the many paintings depicting the artist's studio, such as Courbet's famous "Atelier." In other cases, painters have drawn inspiration from the intimate spaces of their lives, a prime example being Van Gogh's "The Room." But much more often, for an artist, portraying an interior takes on a symbolic meaning, especially when it appears emptied of human presence and the objects become images of memory. This is the interpretation we can give to Dolores Puthod's "Interiors" series, consistent with the essentially Symbolist nature of her pictorial research.

This series of paintings by Dolores Puthod, like a still life, focuses the artist's research on the rendering of objects, demonstrating that the perception of an object (and especially an object in space) transcends the phenomenon. Indeed, the representation is conducted along multiple directional lines, according to a non-univocal perspective. In this way, the structures of things are explored more deeply, breaking them down within the complex space created by the artist. Dolores Puthod's investigative process continues through the pictorial layering, emphasizing areas of volume and highlighting the object's relationship with the space it interacts with. Furthermore, Dolores Puthod employs an elaborate pictorial style that imbues the objects with existential vibrations.
