David Brogi - Triton

The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since classical antiquity, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been one of the main objectives of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the nude is the ultimate expression of this aspiration, transcending all eras and stylistic movements. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations characteristic of the Renaissance and various forms of classicism, which aim for a faithful and detailed representation of the human body, the nude has also been a central theme in the new aesthetic conceptions introduced by the historical avant-garde movements, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism.

In conceiving this work, the sculptor David Brogi carries out a refined exercise in quotation. The figure is composed as if it were an ancient relic bearing all the charm and patina of antiquity. Formally, this is expressed through the artist's skill in bringing to the surface, in a highly expressive manner, the erosion of the material that corrodes and disintegrates the forms. Furthermore, despite its limited volumes, the figure displays a remarkable dynamic tension in its complex torsion. A highly pronounced rotational movement that recalls illustrious predecessors such as the “Belvedere Torso” and demonstrates the artist's profound study of human anatomy as well as his expressive ability in constructing volumes.

David Brogi is an artist originally from Ponsacco, the city where he lives and works. A complex figure with multiple interests, in addition to art, he is also involved in politics and theater. His training began in 1984, the year he attended a private art school in Pisa. Later, he joined the Association of Pisan Artists, through which he has exhibited his works in several group shows, the first of which was at the age of 14, at the Continental Hotel in Tirrenia. At 15, with the work “Futura,” he received a mention at the “Premio Italia” in Certaldo.
