Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the nude is the ultimate expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the nude has also played a leading role in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde movements, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism.

In conceiving this work, sculptor David Brogi employs a refined citation. The figure is composed as if it were an ancient relic, endowed with all the charm and patina of antiquity. Formally, this is expressed through the artist's skill in expressively conveying the wear and tear of the material, which corrodes and disintegrates the forms. Furthermore, despite its limited volumes, the figure displays a remarkable dynamic tension in its complex torsion. This highly accentuated rotational movement recalls illustrious precedents such as the "Belvedere Torso" and demonstrates the artist's profound study of human anatomy as well as his expressive ability in constructing volumes.
David Brogi is an artist originally from Ponsacco, where he lives and works. A complex figure with many interests, he is not only interested in art but also in politics and theater. His training began in 1984, when he attended a private art school in Pisa. He later joined the Associazione Artisti Pisani, through which he exhibited his work in several group shows, the first at the age of 14, at the Continental Hotel in Tirrenia. At 15, his work "Futura" received a special mention at the Premio Italia in Certaldo.
