Cuppici - Landscape

Landscape has always played a leading role in artistic research, both as a setting and a backdrop, but also as a subject in its own right. The naturalistic description of landscape has been one of the greatest aspirations for artists of every era. Each historical period has given its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its description: first with a research into space, through Brunelleschian perspective in the early Renaissance; then on the rendering of atmosphere in the Cinquecento; up to the representation of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Cuppici is a naturalist, tied to landscape painting, which he interprets in his paintings by recontextualizing it within the framework of a contemporary gestural sensibility. In Cuppici's paintings, the image of nature, the phenomenal world, is translated into an informal composition in which, however, the painter leaves scattered the keys to understanding the meaning of the work. One can discern the curve of the grassy slopes even in the dissolution of pictorial space and, through the gradation of colors, one perceives the distinction between land and sky. In conclusion, Cuppici has found a new and highly personal formula for interpreting nature, which, while using objects from sensible reality, recontextualizes them in a composition with an informal aesthetic.
