Description of the work
Description of the work
Paintings depicting sailing ships or boats can be considered part of the genre scene group, that is, the representation of an episode of daily life that, apparently, has no significant elements. In particular, the depiction of simple sailing ships, or other boats, outside the historical context of a naval battle, begins from the 17th and 18th centuries, with the inspiration brought by travel and exploration of the new continents. In the pictorial production of the artist Corrado Mele, the inspiration of the sailing ship is present in many works. Indeed, his most recurring subject is the sea, in which a port is depicted where the boats are moored.
Corrado Mele's pictorial language certainly refers to an expressionist tendency in the formal synthesis, in the vehemence of the brushwork and in the aggressiveness of the chromatic choices. However, the artist has developed his own aesthetics that make him extremely recognizable. The brushstrokes, thick, are structural, highlighting the volumes of things in a crumpled and complex space, in which the various dimensions overlap one another. Compared to most of his production, however, the present work stands out, demonstrating how the artist's research is always open to new formal outcomes. The expressive and dynamic brushstroke remains constant, which builds the objects with an excited synthesis.
The artist Corrado Mele stands out for his expressionist research in the brushwork and color in a complex space. His production is characterized by the recurrence of the theme of boats moored in port views.
