Description of the work
Description of the work
Still on the theme of the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council, in this painting the artist portrays a cardinal whose name we do not know.
The figure is arranged in three-quarters, and the most prominent feature is the facial expression, veiled by a slight sense of monotony. The other parts of the body are covered by the green cardinal's robes, which contrast with the red background, which highlights the outlines of the bishop's flabella and miters.
The scene behind it, although brief, refers to the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council.
The contrast of color that the artist uses, between the background and the figure, creates an undefined space, without depth.
The brushstrokes of various shades of green on the chasuble create movement, as if it were a drape of fabric; the delicately outlined white circles echo the decorations of liturgical vestments; the white collar takes on an unusual triangular shape, and a dark green vertical stripe in the center better delineates the figure, lending volume.
