Description of the work
Description of the work
I wanted to title this painting "The Legend of the Robin," which is the central theme of this painting. It's the story of the sparrow who, moved by compassion, removed the thorns from Jesus' crown, staining his chest with his blood forever. This gesture has remained an indelible memory to this day.
But, at a certain point, I was captivated by a reflection on the word compassion, transforming it into “ComPassione”… I found it fascinating and full of meaning precisely for this work.
Compassion, in fact, implies a deep emotional involvement and a desire to alleviate the suffering of others, as in the case of the robin who takes on Jesus' pain.
But passion, besides being the term that defines Christ's suffering, also carries with it a meaning of intensity and ardour, a fervor that goes beyond simple suffering and touches the sphere of total love, of self-offering.
The use of this double interpretation creates a play of meanings between the robin's gesture and the idea of Christ's Passion. The blood the bird finds on its chest is not only a sign of suffering, but also of a love that is given unconditionally, just like that of Jesus on the cross.
In this way, the figure of the robin becomes not only a symbol of pietas (compassion), but also of passion, understood as a transformative and redemptive force. This is the heart of this work.
