Clockwork Memories – Mixed Media – Michele D’Auria

This work is born from the encounter between memory, time, and identity. Through the layering of antique papers, book pages, musical scores, botanical illustrations, and pictorial fragments, a female face takes shape that does not show itself completely, but reveals itself little by little, like a memory resurfacing from consciousness.

The clocks, protagonists of the composition, do not represent chronological time, but inner time: that of emotions, experiences, and personal transformations. Each hand seems to tell a lived moment, while the butterflies evoke change, rebirth, and the freedom of the soul.

The dialogue between the intense shades of magenta, yellow, and light blue and the warm colors of antique papers creates a balance between energy and nostalgia. The black lines cross the surface like invisible coordinates, suggesting paths, connections, and boundaries that memory continuously builds and dissolves.

The work invites the observer to reflect on the relationship between past and present, showing how every experience leaves an imprint that contributes to defining our identity. Nothing is forgotten: every fragment preserves a story, every mark holds an emotion.

More than a portrait, this composition is a map of the soul, where matter, color, and symbols blend into a story suspended between reality and imagination.

Clockwork Memories celebrates the beauty of imperfections and the richness of experiences that, layering over the course of life, transform every individual into a unique and unrepeatable work of art.
