Cecchinato felt that color was his pictorial language in 1940. That year, he had the opportunity to see a Braque in Venice and said it was a shock.

During the war and its vicissitudes, his paintings acquired a dark, heavy color, which he endowed with angular, hard forms, with a deep mark resembling furrows in the earth. Large and medium-sized canvases depicted architecture resembling concentration camps or sequences of skyscrapers.
