Description of the work
Description of the work
Known by official critics as the "Sculptor of the Wind," he was born in Farra di Soligo on August 29, 1944. He graduated in engineering and artistic-environmental architecture in Fribourg, Switzerland. Since 1963, he has exhibited in group and solo shows worldwide and participated in national and international competitions. He focuses primarily on the creation of monuments and large-scale works in public and private spaces. He has created over eighty monuments in Europe: one world-renowned work is the gold and silver reliquary that preserves the vocal apparatus of Saint Anthony in the Treasury Chapel in the Vatican Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua. Among the most important exhibitions we recall the show at the Ateneo San Basso in Venice in 1988, at the Museo Civico Bellona in Montebelluna in 1989, at the Espace Eugène Delacroix in Paris in 1991 and, in 1993, at the Museo Fondazione GB Cima in Conegliano. Carlo Balljana has won numerous awards, including the first prize in the gold medal for sculptor at the Campidoglio in Rome in 1982 and the first prize in the International Art Competition on the occasion of the centenary of the Eiffel Tower in Paris in 1989. His works are found in the Vatican City (four bronze crucifixes, from Pope John XXIII to Karol Wojtyla); in Washington (a sculpture of a Venetian peasant woman to President Ronald Reagan); in Sotto il Monte (in the province of Bergamo), in the birthplace of Pope John XXIII (an important bronze group representing the Roncalli family); in Moscow (a flight of bronze doves at...Continue reading the artist's full biography here
