Carlito T. - Ethnic extract

The work draws on an Informal aesthetic language. The devastation wrought by World War II left a profound mark on Western civilization, which in the visual arts also resulted in an inability to communicate. For some artists, this challenge led to a complete rejection of any visual language, resulting in the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their research focuses instead on the material from which their works are composed.

A typically figurative painter, in this work Carlito T. is inspired by a wholly aesthetic work, where the absence of form is compensated by pure decorative pleasure. Thus, the artist completely indulges in a sign language inspired by an ethnic, highly exotic taste. The entire surface of the painting is covered with gestural brushstrokes that, along the same aesthetic lines, have a tribal quality.

Carlito T. is an artist from Salerno, born in 1974. His passion for art began with creating paintings and allegorical figures for Carnival. Then, after attending the Art Institute, he delved into the world of tattoos. He specializes primarily in acrylic on canvas. Most of his works feature female faces. His work has been exhibited in various shows in cities such as Munich, São Paulo, Brazil, Paris, Sanremo, and Naples.
