Description of the work
Description of the work
The “Still Life” genre emerged at the beginning of the 17th century. It consists in the representation of compositions of inanimate subjects, in most cases flowers or fruit. If at the beginning of its history it was an opportunity for painters to try their hand at a naturalistic or photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art “Still Life” also becomes a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as will happen, for example, in the cubist avant-garde or in Giorgio Morandi, the profound research on objects will be aimed at a conceptual representation, taken beyond the simple sensory data.
The pictorial language of the painter Capozzi is inspired by a lively naturalism. The painter is endowed with a remarkable technique that allows him to reproduce objects with ease, outline them plastically and seek spatial depth. He is a painter who shows a very classical inclination, but his brushstroke possesses a certain impressionistic verve that allows him to characterize his works with immediacy and freshness. His taste for bright colors, which always settle on brilliant tones, through which he records sudden flashes of light, also contributes to this. The space is always composed in a perfect balance in which the object becomes the absolute protagonist. All this, together with the very elaborate pictorial application, gives Capozzi's still lifes a truly existential significance.
Capozzi is a painter who deals, in his production, above all with still lifes. He is an artist who conceives artistic creation in a very classical way, with a soft naturalism, tempered by a lively application of impressionistic inspiration.
