Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers as an independent subject begin to appear in “still lifes,” a genre that sees the light at the beginning of the 17th century. Later, painters’ interest in the floral world, especially with the Impressionists, grows ever greater, as it provides an extraordinary opportunity to capture chromatic and luminous vibrations. Thus, flowers are depicted not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While at the beginning of its history it was a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art the subject of flowers also becomes a way of interpreting reality.
The pictorial language of the painter Capozzi is inspired by a lively naturalism. The painter is endowed with a remarkable technique that allows him to reproduce objects with ease, delineate them plastically, and seek spatial depth. He is a painter who shows a very classical inclination, but his brushwork possesses a certain Impressionistic verve that allows him to characterize his works with immediacy and freshness. His taste for bright colors, which always settle on brilliant tones through which he records sudden flashes of light, also contributes to this. The space is always composed in a perfect balance in which the object becomes the absolute protagonist. All this, together with the highly elaborate pictorial application, gives Capozzi’s still lifes a truly existential significance.
Capozzi is a painter who deals, in his production, mainly with still lifes. He is an artist who conceives the artistic process in a very classical way, with a soft naturalism, tempered by a lively brushwork of Impressionistic inspiration.
