Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting depicts a port at sunset or in the early light of dawn, with a series of fishing boats moored or stationary in the water. In the center of the scene, a mountain ridge dominates the background, while quays and port structures can be seen on the sides. The light is soft, reflected on the choppy sea, and creates a backlighting effect that envelops the entire composition in a uniform and cool tone. The boats, of different sizes, are carefully rendered, suggesting a realistic and everyday setting.
The painting is figurative, built on a frontal and well-balanced view of the scene. The artist sets the composition with a central horizon, guiding the eye toward the mountain in the background. The use of color is controlled: muted and subdued tones prevail, with a color palette developing around blues, grays, and purples, interrupted by the reds and ochres of the boats. The brushstrokes are thin, applied with precision, and aim for an atmospheric rendering rather than minute detail. There are no elements of formal research or experimentation: the style is sober, consistent with a production linked to a figurative tradition of the mid or late twentieth century, which favors direct observation and the verisimilar representation of the landscape.
Despite the presence of the signature C. Pinna, it has not been possible to attribute the identity of the author with certainty: the research carried out so far has not allowed the name to be linked to an artist documented in official circles. The pictorial style and dating suggest a placement in the context of Italian painting of the second half of the twentieth century, a period in which the representation of landscapes and seascapes was still widespread, even outside the main academic circuits. The work highlights a good technical mastery and a marked sensitivity toward the marine theme, elements that suggest an artistic training, perhaps matured in a local setting or in less institutional contexts.
