Short - Still Life

The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consists of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art the "Still Life" also becomes a way of interpreting reality, as it did for the Cubists or Giorgio Morandi.

In this still life, the subjects undergo a profound process of abstraction and reduction. They are constructed with a few essential brushstrokes. The artist's skill lies in making his pictorial gesture expressive. It is the simple gesture, in fact, that gives form to the subjects, imbuing them with existential vibrations. Likewise, the color is intense, dense with pure, extremely expressive hues.
