Renato Bertoloni - Spring

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

Painter Renato Bertoloni stands out for his use of color, which is the undisputed protagonist of his work. The space of his paintings tends to be two-dimensional, and the surface is divided into broad chromatic zones. His application is composed of broad, sinuous brushstrokes or thick, dense dashes of color. In this way, color also has a structural function, delineating the volumes of objects. His palette is also highly distinctive: Renato Bertoloni favors very bright colors, almost aggressive in their expressiveness.

Renato Bertoloni was a painter born in Busseto in 1924 and died in Milan in 1986. His paintings focused primarily on traditional genres such as landscapes, still lifes, and genre scenes. He developed his own personal style, distinguished by the strength of his brushstrokes and the expressiveness of his colors.
