Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always played a leading role in artistic exploration, both as a setting and a backdrop, but also as a subject in its own right. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been one of the greatest aspirations of artists in every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first through an exploration of space, using Brunelleschian perspective in the early Renaissance; then through the rendering of atmosphere in the sixteenth century; and finally, in Impressionism, with the representation of every individual vibration of light on objects.
Bertoli is distinguished by a landscape painting in which he seeks out characteristic views imbued with their own lyricism. This explains his taste for the picturesque vignette and the evocative composition. Formally, all this culminates in an extremely fluid and dynamic painterly approach that ensures freshness and immediacy of execution. His brushwork is therefore characterized by a decidedly cursive touch, made up of sudden, swift strokes that effectively capture the vibrations of light on objects. This is most evident in the execution of tonal transitions, which define space and the variations of light through rapid touches of white. The entire composition is pervaded by a quiet naturalism and a freshness derived from the artist's technical skill.
Bertoli is an artist who devotes himself primarily to landscape painting, with a highly lyrical vision of phenomenal reality. For the artist, it is essential to translate emotions into images through a very fluid, cursive touch inspired by Impressionism.
