Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always played a leading role in artistic research, both as a setting and a backdrop, but also as a subject in its own right. The naturalistic description of landscape has been one of the greatest aspirations for artists of every era. Each historical period has given its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its description: first with a research into space, through Brunelleschian perspective in the early Renaissance; then on atmospheric rendering in the Cinquecento; up to the representation of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Manlio Bacosi is a painter who transfigures reality into a refined stylistic union between Expressionism and Informal Art. The landscape undergoes a profound process of synthetic reduction that leads the artist to represent a minimalist world, indicated by a few marks on flat and uniform applications of color in a two-dimensional space. In this way, Bacosi creates an almost surreal dimension characterized also by colors of highly symbolic and spiritual value. In this context, moreover, the artist intervenes with a certain gestural nature of his own that leads him to superimpose on this reality even more mysterious and hermetic pictorial marks.
Manlio Bacosi was a painter originally from Perugia, born in 1921 and passed away in 1998. His training took place under the guidance of Leo Ravazzi and Gerardo Dottori. Starting from 1947, he was the protagonist of numerous exhibitions not only in Italy but also abroad. Among the most important, we mention the anthology of 1972 in Todi and the solo exhibitions in Recanati for the Leopardian Events and in Montecatini in 1975.
