Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The painter Antonio Sbrana can be considered a true follower of the Tuscan Macchiaioli pictorial tradition. This is evident primarily in his landscapes, where the brushstrokes of color, in addition to playing a structural role, capture all the subject's luminous and atmospheric vibrations, in a highly synthetic and lyrical representation of tangible reality. Furthermore, Sbrana also adds a rational and geometric sense, uniquely Tuscan, to composition. The identification of forms in a reasoned and balanced construction brings the artist closer to Cézanne, even if his sense of synthesis is exquisitely post-Macchiaioli.
Antonio Sbrana was born in Maremma in 1934, where he spent most of his life. After completing his academic studies, he founded the Toscana Arte G. Macchi group, and later participated in the Accademia Tiburtina in Rome and the Accademia del Fiorino in Florence. Throughout his career, Antonio Sbrana held numerous solo exhibitions in Italy's major cities. He also received numerous prestigious art awards and recognitions. Antonio Sbrana's works are held in collections in countries such as the United States, Italy, England, Scotland, Africa, Canada, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, Bulgaria, France, Austria, and Switzerland.
