Description of the work
Description of the work
Antonio Possenti spent a good part of his early years in Livorno before moving to Lucca following the bombings of the Second World War.
During his adolescence, he developed an interest in reading of all kinds, which helped him discover the expressive qualities of drawing. His family provided great support in his intellectual and cultural development: his father was a high school principal, his mother a teacher, and his grandfather was the rector of the University of Pisa, Augusto Mancini, a member of Parliament.
After completing his classical studies, he graduated in Law and taught law in secondary schools in the province of Lucca. While teaching, he began working as a satirical illustrator, succeeding cartoonist Mino Maccari on the pages of the weekly magazine "Il Mondo," and illustrated several volumes in Arnoldo Mondadori Editore's "Il Ponte" series. His encounter with the Russian painter Marc Chagall on the French Riviera in 1957 was crucial, after which he decided to devote himself fully to "professional painting."
Since 1960, he has received numerous awards, exhibiting in leading Italian and foreign galleries. He was also mentioned in the Bolaffi catalogue in 1972 by Dino Buzzati and in 1982 by Pier Carlo Santini.
