Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always played a leading role in artistic research, both as a setting and a backdrop, but also as a subject in its own right. The naturalistic description of landscape has been one of the greatest aspirations of artists in every era. Each historical period has given its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its description: first with a research into space, through Brunelleschian perspective in the early Renaissance; then on atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; up to the representation of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
In this landscape, Angela Occhpinti achieves, through the pictorial medium, a delicate fusion between naturalistic rendering and poetry. Indeed, reality seems to be transfigured into a lyrical interpretation of itself that almost transfers it into a dreamlike dimension. All this is translated, from a formal point of view, into a very delicate pictorial approach where the representation of reality occurs in a rarefied way. This means that the recording of realistic details and particulars is lost in favor of a language that tends to be more expressionistic and symbolic. Complicit in this path is the refined pictorial touch of Angela Occhipinti, who synthesizes objects with great delicacy. And so too the color range stands out for a very delicate unnaturalistic tendency, for which the immersion in white and the exaltation of violets translate precisely the poetic sensitivity of the artist and her almost dreamlike interpretation of the landscape.
Angela Occhipinti was born in Perugia, lives and works in Milan. She studied in Florence and graduated in painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti. She specialized in graphic arts and printmaking techniques. In 1958 she moved to Milan. She worked with Lucio Fontana, with whom she had a complementary experience in the art of ceramics, at the Martinotti laboratory and in printmaking at Giorgio Upiglio. Since 1968 she has exhibited in solo exhibitions at the most important galleries in Milan, such as Galleria Marconi, Galleria Seno, Studio Grossetti. In 1974 she became the holder of the Chair of Printmaking Techniques at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Macerata and since 1978 she has been the holder of the chair of Printmaking Techniques at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Brera (MI). She has been invited to teach printmaking technique courses at numerous universities in many parts of the world. Her works are found in important private collections and in modern art museums in Italy and abroad.
