Alfredo Tesini - Sunset in Paderno

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. The entire production of the painter Alfredo Tesini focused on traditional subjects such as landscapes, whether rural or urban, seascapes, or floral compositions. In this variety of themes, the artist exhibits a strong stylistic coherence based on his own interpretation of post-Impressionist poetics.

Alfredo Tesini's works demonstrate the artist's attainment of post-Impressionist maturity. The composition is entirely constructed through color, and the brushstrokes have a notable structural value. The painter's aim is not to capture the sensory aspect of the landscape, but to capture its very essence, its substance. To this end, the brushstrokes, rich in texture, intervene, breaking down the space into different planes, despite the simplicity of the representation, recording the vibrations of light and life on the subject. Thus, within a substantially two-dimensional surface, compressed in the foreground, the objects are constructed by the painter through large, dense patches of color. There is a marked synthesis of the objects, lending the execution great immediacy and lyricism of the representation, while fully respecting the sensory aspects of the landscape. From a chromatic perspective, furthermore, the entire surface of the works is always in tune with a unifying palette depending on the conditions, of light and atmosphere, that the artist wishes to capture in the painting.

Alfredo Tesini is a painter from Bologna who has focused his artistic production on landscapes. His favorite subjects are city views of his native Bologna, as well as evocative views of the surrounding countryside. The artist has developed a coherent post-Impressionist poetics based on a smudged, synthetic approach, and rich in immediacy of execution.
