Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always played a leading role in artistic research, both as a setting and a backdrop, but also as a subject in its own right. The naturalistic description of landscape has been one of the greatest aspirations for artists of every era. Each historical period has given its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its description: first with a research into space, through Brunelleschian perspective in the early Renaissance; then on the rendering of atmosphere in the Cinquecento; up to the representation of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Even in landscape painting, the artist Tullio Alemanni maintains his extraordinary ability to achieve a perfect naturalistic rendering in a modern key. In this work we can see how he fully respects the description of naturalistic data but always using a very synthetic stroke, full of vibrations not only luminous, but also existential. In particular, in relation to the subject inspired by the humble and simple country life, his stroke becomes even more synthetic, coarse and dense with color. It seems an essential realism that is interpreted in this painting by Tullio Alemanni, who looks very much, both in technique and in the spirit of the composition, to the movement of the Macchiaioli.
Tullio Alemanni was born in Acqiaro in 1897, graduated from the Albertina Academy in Turin and, at the end of the twenties, undertook an intense artistic activity, carried out mainly in Piedmont and Lombardy. He died in 1983 in Ivrea. Among the most important works created by this painter we remember the chapel of the Salesian institute Cardinal Cagliero with the frescoed apse and the large canvases on the walls, as well as the paintings that serve as a backdrop to the baptismal font of the church of San Maurizio also in Ivrea.
