Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Aldo Riso is a master at capturing his homeland, Puglia, and, more generally, the distinctive landscapes of Italy. He does so with a traditional approach that has led him to embrace a simple yet effective realism, characterized by solitary places filled with light. Even in his graphic work, the dominant characteristic of Riso's landscapes is an intense use of white. The white of the light, reflecting off the walls of the houses, predominates in the composition, almost transfiguring reality. This allows the artist to convey the warmth of his homeland through the use of vibrant colors.
Aldo Riso, born in Santa Maria di Leuca in 1928 and passed away in Rome in 2008, was an artist from Puglia who made his homeland his favorite subject, portraying it with a refined watercolor technique. This earned him extraordinary popularity. His career began with his first exhibition in 1956, and he subsequently exhibited his works not only in Italy but also in Cologne, Berlin, Vienna, Paris, Philadelphia, Belgrade, Athens, Barcelona, Madrid, Montreal, Toronto, New York, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Asuncion, and South Africa.
