Santa Maria di Leuca, August 24, 1928 – Rome, February 23, 2008 A law graduate, Aldo Riso has followed contemporary art trends from the outset, yet never compromised its traditional sentiments and expressions. He remains closely linked, albeit with modern touches, to the great tradition of Italian painting and landscape painting in his artwork. The painter Aldo Riso always remained in love with his homeland, Puglia, even though he traveled to the Soviet Union, Africa, and the Americas and was able to appreciate their varied landscapes. In watercolor, he finds the best expression of his art. He manages to give this technique a new strength. The play of shadows, which serve to enhance the sharpness of the line, and the extensive use of white highlight the landscapes, the sun-drenched streets, the squares, and the houses motionless in the sun. Aldo Riso is one of the best-known Italian artists, present throughout the country. Since 1956, in addition to having presented numerous solo exhibitions in all the most important Italian cities, he has also exhibited in: Paris, Barcelona, Athens, Philadelphia, Berlin, Vienna, Cologne, Toronto, New York, Buenos Aires.
