The work presents itself as a subtractive representation of a landscape. In this sense, we could call it an abstract-figurative work, since the artist Aldo Gentili has created a composition that reflects everyday subjects—homes in this case—while immersing himself in an imaginative description of them. "Abstrahere," which means to extract or draw out, consists of eliminating the particular and individual aspects of an object to derive an absolute concept. The great masters of the 20th century, from Kandinsky to Mondrian, from Pollock to Mirò, succeeded in purifying the image to achieve a sense of purity, order, and geometry, returning to the essence of forms. The essential colors translate these disjointed images into emotions and instinct.

Aldo Gentilini's pictorial language transfigures reality into a system of pure lines and colors. The compositional rhythm of the lines, in particular, dictates the flow of the painting. The total absence of perspective, the homogeneous, pure, and compact color field, divides the flat surface into multiple zones of color. The figurative connection still exists thanks to the depiction of houses, but manages to escape from the reality expressed through an imaginative geometry.

Aldo Gentilini was born in Genoa in 1912 and passed away in Volpeglino in 1982. Self-taught, he took several philosophy courses and, for a time, lived in a monastery. His life was always one of isolation. He was a great admirer of Saint Francis and, conversely, an opponent of the art market. For this reason, he sold his works for very little money. He exhibited in numerous group and solo shows in Italy, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Canada, America, Australia, Germany, and Switzerland.
