Description of the work
Description of the work
Animal portraits in art have ancient origins, even appearing in primitive cave paintings. For religious reasons, various types of animals appear in the works of various ancient civilizations. It was especially in the Middle Ages, within the International Gothic style, that animal depictions became widespread as true life portraits, both within works of art and in notebooks of drawings and sketches. The presence of animals as subjects in art remained constant until the contemporary era.
Adelindo Tassi's entire oeuvre is dedicated to a rural and agricultural world, from which he seeks to highlight a spirituality of the land and peasant labor through a complex artistic process grounded in a recontextualization inspired by post-Impressionism. Tassi's technique consists of thick, dense brushstrokes that construct the image in an almost pointillist manner, leaving the viewer's eye to reconstruct the forms. In this painting in particular, the line, despite being almost coarse, manages to convey a fresh, lively, and vibrant image of the animals.
Adelindo Tassi was born in 1926 in Arliano, Mugello. From an early age, he showed talent in drawing and painting, and throughout his career, he has focused on the rural and rural life of his hometown. He has exhibited his work in several important exhibitions, including at the Palazzo del Podestà in Borgo San Lorenzo, at the Galleria Cancelli in Florence, and at the Galleria Falsetti in Prato. One of his paintings is housed in the Museo Comunale in Florence.
