Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been an artist's aspiration throughout the centuries. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
A. Gagliardi's artistic output is distinguished by a highly engaging landscape painting style, in which he has achieved a perfect balance between magical realism and an impressionistic rendering of the tangible. Indeed, Gagliardi works with the concreteness of someone who seeks to enhance plastic and formal values. The structure of the landscape and the objects within it are constructed through a bold design, which generates a sinuous, undulating rhythm in the composition and enhances the volumes of the objects. However, in his application of color, Gagliardi opts for a more dynamic and vibrant brushstroke, thus imparting a freshness and immediacy that bring the landscape to life. In this sense, it is above all an extraordinary use of light that characterizes Gagliardi's works. A light that does not undermine the formal values of the objects, but rather imbues them with a luminescent glow that enhances the magical quality of this artist's landscapes.
A. Gagliardi is the protagonist of a very interesting landscape painting. In his views the formal rigor of a realist language is combined with a dynamic application of color and suggestive light effects.
