A. D'Alessio - Landscape

Landscape has always played a leading role in artistic research, both as a setting and a backdrop, but also as a subject in its own right. The naturalistic description of landscape has been one of the greatest aspirations for artists of every era. Each historical period has given its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its description: first with a study of space, through Brunelleschian perspective in the early Renaissance; then with the rendering of atmosphere in the sixteenth century; and finally with the representation of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

For the painter A. D'Alessio, naturalistic rendering is a fundamental component of his artistic practice. His main goal is to transfer onto canvas a realistic and immediate image of the landscape. For this reason, his artistic practice is essentially based on a faithful recording of sensory data which, in addition to an accurate reproduction of the subject from life, also draws on a vigorous lyrical sensibility that leads him to fill his views with luminous and atmospheric vibrations. Indeed, although, on a formal level, D'Alessio's language remains substantially figurative, his touch is extremely painterly, tending to ensure freshness and immediacy of execution, according to the Impressionist principles of en plein air painting. Furthermore, D'Alessio's palette consists of a brilliant range of colors, aimed at capturing all the refractions of light, especially those coming from the body of water.
