Biography
Aldo Torchio was born in Cremona in 1925. After completing his studies, he moved to Milano, where he attended the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, taking courses in painting and sculpture with masters such as Francesco Messina and Giacomo Manzù. He began his career as an illustrator for school textbooks, then worked for various publishers and magazines, including Il Monello and Intrepido. He became well known for his covers and illustrations in mezzotint, characterised by a soft and realistic line.
Alongside illustration, he also devoted himself to painting and decoration, producing portraits and landscapes. In the 1970s he moved to Sanremo, before returning to Milano in 1984. In his later years, owing to problems with his eyesight, he gave up illustration to concentrate exclusively on painting. He died in 1999 in Cingia de' Botti, in the province of Cremona.
