Biography
Rossi Carolina, in arte Carla, was born in 1910 in Parma. Her life was soon marked by the premature death of her husband during the war, an event that led her to painting, which she taught herself. Art became her safe space, a passion that filled her solitary and silent moments. She was a primary school teacher, a highly cultured woman who loved to read and to share her knowledge. Her art also reflected her studies, her everyday life and the simplicity that characterised her. Her favourite subjects are traditional: flower arrangements, still lifes and the countryside of Parma, revealing the hardships of the farmers and the seasons, and recounting a reality that has now disappeared, into which we can immerse ourselves through her painting. Her works are sought after for their refined, carefully crafted compositions, their vivid colours and their quick brushstrokes, reminiscent of a painting built from touches and light. Her preferred technique is oil on canvas, but she also tried her hand at drawing and watercolour, techniques that, however, often remained confined to sketches for study. She passed away in 2008, at the age of 98.
