Biography
Self-taught artist Andrea Carlo Mazzucchi has always felt the need to express himself. From a young age he showed a clear predilection for art and drawing, which led him to enrol at the Istituto d'arte di Lucca.
Later, his work in a restoration firm gave him the solid foundations he needed to experiment with a variety of techniques.
His highly realistic drawing style draws inspiration from Venetian Flemish painting, which is distinguished by its ability to bring out the minutiae of the depicted subject through chiaroscuro contrasts and a lucid brushwork that celebrates the luminosity of the canvas. Another source of inspiration for the painter is Caravaggio, for his powerfully expressive force and his palette of strong colours.
What intrigues most is the convergence, within the painter's works, of elements from a fabulous world. His still lifes often come alive with subjects from the realm of fairy tales, such as gnomes, fairies and elves, transporting us to a wondrous dimension.
His preferred technique is acrylic, which he applies at speed.
