Biography
Gabriella Morbin was born in Vicenza in 1953. She has loved art since childhood and enrolled at a technical institute specialising in graphic design, a training that led her to work as a designer and later as a technical drawing teacher. Throughout this time she has continued to paint, never straying from her love of painting. At the same time, she has pursued her artistic training by attending many workshops in Italy and abroad, with artists such as Cornelia Stauffer and Pedro Cano, the latter of whom introduced her to watercolour during those years. Today she prefers to work in oil and watercolour. While she uses the former mainly in the quiet of the studio, she practises the latter outdoors, so as to capture at its best the gentle touch of light on natural and urban landscapes, allowing herself to be inspired by the constantly changing light and by the life that washes of colour can sometimes take on. Watercolours made outdoors can sometimes become the basis for oil paintings, which are executed with very diluted oil applied in thin glazes that, in their clarity and transparency, recall the airy and immaterial quality of watercolour. Yet this thinned, fragile oil also has an intrinsic strength: the runs are nothing other than colour paving its own unpredictable path. Over the years the painter has worked on various projects, including series of still lifes, portraits and nudes as well as landscapes, which have been shown in solo and group exhibitions throughout Italy.
