Biography
Fioravante Cecere was born in Montesarchio, in the province of Benevento, in 1946. He attended the Liceo Classico and later earned a degree in Agricultural Sciences. His close bond with nature shaped his approach to the arts: in the years following his degree, his output grew steadily and took the form of poetry, painting and sculpture. He began carving natural elements such as plants and rocks, while also producing his first murals in a naïf style. Over the years Cecere deepened his approach to painting and explored, above all, the relationship between humanity and nature from a variety of perspectives. A visit to Rome, where he encountered Informal and Abstract art, prompted him to combine his cave-like graffiti with a more contemporary, pixelated art, giving rise to what he calls the "Archaeology of the Future", a moment in which humanity will return to a primordial state after the, in his view inevitable, destruction of contemporary society. He thus pairs drawings with an antique flavour with a painting style of short, rapid hatching that creates a frame of vibrant colours. To date, the artist's most prominent painting cycles are those devoted to the Metopes, the Graffiti, the Pixels and the Collages. Often, his works draw us into a vortex of colour that absorbs and captures the gaze.
