Biography
He met important "Maestri", including Remo Brindisi, Renato Guttuso, Aligi Sassu and Giorgio De Chirico. In 1987 he travelled to Sweden as an art ambassador, where he met talented Swedish artists. During those years he came to know the publisher Renato Lamperini, who promoted his works in the magazine "Arte Italia Illustrata" and organised important solo exhibitions for him. He exhibited in Venice, in Piazza San Marco, in an exhibition entitled "Luci e Colori a Venezia", and in Pescara, at the birthplace of Gabriele D'Annunzio, in an exhibition entitled "Pescara nella poetica D'Annunziana" (on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of D'Annunzio's death). He became friends with the painter and engraver Luigi Guardigli, printer of Picasso's works, which enhanced his graphic techniques and led him to set up a screen-printing workshop.
In recent years he has worked extensively on the search for his own identity, which many critics identify as "Neo-Raggismo".
In 2005 he founded the "Centro Arte Angioina" and became its President.
He has created important works, including the altarpieces in the Sanctuary of the "Madonna delle Grazie" and in the Church of "S. Maria delle Valli" in the municipality of Cittaducale; the canvas of "Santa Filippa Mareri" for the Museum of the Monastery of Borgo S. Pietro (exhibited alongside works by De Chirico); the portraits he presented to Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis; the canvas commemorating the 150th anniversary of "L'Unità d'Italia" for the De Lellis Hospital in Rieti; the work "Tramonto al porto" for the Barbella Museum in Chieti; the "Madonna del Soccorso" for the Church in Reggio Calabria; the paintings on the Monte Terminillo tragedy for the Saletta dei Ricordi museum in Cantalice (Ri); and the paintings on the Superga tragedy for the museum in Turin.
He became friends with well-known contemporary Maestri such as Ennio Calabria, Alessandro Trotti, Manuel Campus and many others.
In June 2010 he was appointed Artistic Director of the Biennale of Contemporary Arts "Centro Italia". In September 2011, in Spoleto, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2012, at the Chamber of Deputies, he received the "Premio Comunicare l'Europa". He entered the Sgarbi Collection with two works in the Raccolta di Stampe e Disegni, "which attests to the value of his work and the validity of his constant stylistic commitment".
More recently, alongside his intense painting activity in Italy and abroad, he has also devoted himself to fresco painting, creating two for the project "Il Sentiero degli Artisti" and the edicole on the "Cantico delle Creature" by St Francis ("Sorella Acqua") for the Municipality of Greccio, five for the "Via Crucis" in the Municipality of Antrodoco, the large mural for the centenary of the Great War in the Municipality of Castel S. Angelo, and the one in the Perseo underpass in the city of Rieti.
On 2 June 2015, on the proposal of the President of the Council of Ministers, he received from the President of the Italian Republic the honour of Knight of the Italian Republic for Artistic Merit.
In July 2022 he was appointed District Officer and member of the "Artisti della Solidarietà" Committee by the Governor of the Lions Clubs International, District 108L.
