Biography
Enrico Antonielli was born in Perugia in 1941 and graduated in Philosophy from the Sapienza di Roma. He began his career as a teacher and later became director of CICoM, il Centro per l'Informazione e la Comunicazione di Massa, for the region of Umbria. He also graduated in Art History at the Università di Perugia, deepening his passion for art, which he pursued with dedication through sculpture and painting. His best-known work is the monument dedicated to the Umbrian philosopher Aldo Capitini, a bronze statue located in the Giardini Carducci in Perugia. Another significant moment in his career is his participation in the V° Biennale Internazionale dell'Arte Contemporanea di Firenze in 2005. One of his works, "La compresenza", made in wax, is permanently displayed in the Sala dell'Orologio of the Museo Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria at Palazzo dei Priori in Perugia. Antonielli uses art as a means of exploring existential, philosophical and social themes, questioning the deeper meaning of existence. His works reflect on the relationship between the human being, society and the concepts of identity and memory. For him, art is an act of research and truth. His works are genuine experiments with different materials and techniques, including mirrored polystyrene, laser-cut calendered aluminium, woollen threads and acrylic paint on canvas. Often characterised by essential forms, his works invite the viewer to deep reflection, drawing on materials that suggest vulnerability and fragility, qualities that seem to define the condition of contemporary human beings.
