Biography
For Elisa Bertesago, art is the visible imprint of her deepest feelings. A biologist by training and a self-taught artist by vocation, she has always perceived the world through details, forms and colours, in a continuous dialogue between aesthetic sensitivity and a scientific gaze. Long before she turned to painting, in fact, she cultivated photography, her first great passion: her travels, the South American mountains, the northern lights in Norway and encounters with the underwater natural world have become visual archives from which she draws rhythms, atmospheres and palettes to translate onto canvas.
The ArtoBE project came about almost by chance, when she began making canvases for her own home. From the very first experiment she instinctively chose the pouring technique and large formats, approaching the canvas without fear. Over time she has refined her painterly gesture, preferring the use of breath to mechanical tools: a physical, direct act that keeps the work alive and in constant transformation.
Her scientific training emerges in cellular textures that recall Petri dishes, evolving organisms or cosmic landscapes, while photography gives her a sense of composition and harmony. For her, everything begins with colour: it is colour that guides, evokes and transforms. In nature she finds her deepest inspirations — a fragment of light, a seabed, an expanse of sky — elements that become the point of origin from which beauty and essence emerge.
ArtoBE does not merely echo her name: it represents her way of being and becoming, an ever-evolving research capable of capturing an inspiration through the photographic lens and transforming it into painting. Each work is an encounter between introspection, gestural freedom and the spontaneity of pigment, an invitation to explore a more authentic inner space.
After her first group exhibitions in Rome and Milan in 2024, she is currently working on her first solo exhibition in Milan, scheduled for early 2026, passionately pursuing a line of research that interweaves nature, science, travel and colour — the founding elements of her artistic universe.
