Biography
Although Anna Carignani was born in Naples in 1952, she has now been living and working in Rome for around thirty years. Her passion for art emerged in childhood, but it was only later that she began to explore various artistic forms, seeking an expressive world that would be entirely her own. She started shaping porcelain and ceramics, which she fired in a kiln of her own, and took lessons in pastel, chalk and oil, while she is self-taught in acrylics. Her early works were mainly linked to photographs, often taken during travels, or to other found images, always tied to profound emotions. She later moved away from chalk and pastels, as she preferred paintings without a frame, which becomes indispensable for the conservation of works executed in such techniques. The frame therefore disappears from her paintings but, in a sense, we could also say that it appears. The artist has devised a distinctive form of visual poetry whereby her paintings have an integrated frame, which could be described as such because it is painted to look like marble or wood. After a difficult period, she returned to painting with renewed creative freedom, which is expressed in radiant scenes of intense and striking colour that reveal her desire to live fully, even through her artistic expression, day by day; and, as if by osmosis, this joy extends to the viewer. Over the course of her career, the artist has taken part in solo and group exhibitions, both national and international, achieving critical success and accumulating various awards.
