Biography
Born in Buenos Aires, Antonio Syxty lives in Milan, where he has established himself as a visual artist, performer and film director. From his beginnings in the 1970s, his work has combined performance, painting and writing into a conceptual language, exploring the relationship between body, space and creativity. His works on paper and canvas are often the result of performative actions, in a continuous dialogue between gesture and mark. He soon distinguished himself as a performer, collaborating with figures such as Alessandro Mendini, Nanda Vigo and Franco Battiato, and drawing inspiration from artists such as Duchamp and Acconci. In 1978 he founded the autobiographical movement "OH-ART!", promoting his performances in Italy and across Europe. In the 1980s, Syxty diversified his career, also working as a fashion model and reflecting on photographic aesthetics and the visual language of the time. His performances from this period were often recorded and archived on video, many of which today represent a valuable documentation of that decade. In parallel, his painterly research evolved towards a "visual writing", in which the painted mark becomes the expression of a conceptual path. From a technical standpoint, he often uses oil and industrial varnish, producing works characterised by a balance between formal rigour and emotional intensity. Among his most emblematic works is the iconography associated with the credit card, through which he reflects on the concepts of identity, economic transactions and the American Dream. In recent years, Syxty has exhibited in private and public galleries, collaborating with institutions such as Carré d'Artiste and taking part in exhibitions in prestigious venues. He is currently artistic coordinator of the Fondazione Palazzo Litta per le Arti ETS and of MTM - Manifatture Teatrali Milanesi, while maintaining his studio-atelier in Milan, where he continues to produce works and explore new expressive possibilities.
