However, when an artist's goal is to represent an object that resonates with phenomenal reality but is also charged with hidden and symbolic meaning, this boundary can become blurred. Symbolism and Expressionism are emblematic stylistic movements in their conceptual interpretation of reality, with an iconic rendering of images and a symbolic interpretation in the use of color.

The human figure is always central to Lorenzo Tornabuoni's artistic production. His interpretation, however, always tends toward a refined aesthetic. This aesthetic is constructed with anti-naturalistic constraints, exerted with the aim of heightening the figure's expressionism. Thus, as we can also see in this lithograph, the human body becomes almost a cocoon, a pure form, barely characterized in its physical and aesthetic details. Its aesthetic value is therefore to be found in the elegance of its contours and the painterly quality (a constant in Tornabuoni) that enlivens its surface. Consequently, the color palette is always complex, constructed on often exaggerated hues.

A Roman artist born in 1934, Lorenzo Tornabuoni's artistic career began in the 1960s, exhibiting in various galleries.
